At the India AI Impact Summit 2026, the Indian Army’s panel discussion on ‘Defence Perspective in AI’ attracted a diverse audience, including military leadership, industry representatives, and academia. Lieutenant General Vipul Shinghal, DCOAS (IS&T), discussed leadership challenges in the AI era, while Lieutenant General Harsh Chhibber, DGIS, emphasized the role of human agency in the use of force. Major General Pawan Anand (Retd) highlighted ethical considerations and international humanitarian law, with industry and academic perspectives shared on technological sovereignty and AI-driven logistics optimization.
During his visit to DRDO’s Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE) in Bengaluru on February 16, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh reviewed the progress of ongoing projects related to indigenous military gas turbine engine development. He commended GTRE for its contributions to national security through self-reliance, recognizing DRDO as fundamental to India’s strategic capabilities. Singh stressed the importance of achieving self-reliance in aero engine technology in the current geopolitical landscape, emphasizing India’s efforts to prioritize aero engine development.
