Chief of the Army Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi, highlighted the significance of self-reliance and innovation in India’s military readiness during a press conference in Pune. He praised the 353 cadets, including 18 women, passing out from the National Defence Academy, noting the evolving role of women in the Armed Forces. General Dwivedi stressed the need for armed forces to adapt to modern warfare’s changing landscape, spanning various domains like land, air, sea, space, cyber, electromagnetic, and cognitive spheres.
Referring to a military operation in 2025 against terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir, General Dwivedi commended India’s resolve and operational prowess. He underscored the importance of integrated planning, real-time intelligence, and precision targeting in such operations. The Army Chief acknowledged the evolving nature of warfare and the ongoing transformation within the Indian Army to meet future challenges, emphasizing the crucial role of the younger generation in this process.
General Dwivedi elaborated on the Army’s modernization initiatives, including the establishment of multi-drone battalions, Divyastra batteries, and technology-enabled structures. He reiterated the central role of self-reliance and innovation in enhancing India’s defense capabilities for long-term preparedness. Collaborating with various stakeholders nationwide, the Army aims to translate indigenous ideas into battlefield capabilities, guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mantra of JAI — Jointness, Atmanirbharta, and Innovation.
Highlighting the multifaceted role of the military beyond combat operations, General Dwivedi emphasized contributions to nation-building through activities like border security, disaster relief operations, and educational initiatives. He also recognized the importance of veterans, Veer Naris, dependants, and military families, affirming their integral role in the Army fraternity.
