Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi stated that the situation along the northern and northwestern border is “stable” and “under firm control,” highlighting the importance of maintaining constant vigilance. He noted a significant positive transformation in Jammu and Kashmir in 2025, with a shift from terrorism to tourism becoming evident in the region. Dwivedi mentioned that security forces have eliminated 31 terrorists in the past year, with a majority of them being of Pakistani origin, including those responsible for the Pahalgam terror attack.
Addressing the annual press conference, Gen Dwivedi emphasized the stability along the Northern Front, underscoring the need for continuous monitoring while mentioning efforts towards normalization through interactions and confidence-building measures. He highlighted the strategic orientation, balanced deployment along the Line of Actual Control, and ongoing capability development and infrastructure enhancement along the Northern Borders.
Regarding the North-western Front, Gen Dwivedi discussed India’s response to the Pahalgam terror attack, detailing the execution of Operation Sindoor aimed at dismantling terror infrastructure. He praised the success of the operation in disrupting terror activities and ensuring a calibrated response to Pakistani actions, emphasizing the importance of tri-service synergy and political directives.
Gen Dwivedi reaffirmed that Operation Sindoor is ongoing and warned of a resolute response to any future misadventures. He commended the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders involved in the operation and highlighted the sensitive yet controlled situation along the North-western Front and in Jammu and Kashmir. The Army chief also pointed out the positive developments in Jammu and Kashmir, including increased tourism, development activities, and successful events like the Shri Amarnath Yatra.
