Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi emphasized the ongoing nature of Operation Sindoor and warned of a strong response to any future misadventure. He praised the synergy among the tri-services and the clear political directive guiding military actions. Gen Dwivedi also commended the proactive role played by all stakeholders involved in Operation Sindoor.
Speaking at the Indian Army’s annual press conference, Gen Dwivedi noted the stable yet vigilant situation along the Northern Front. He highlighted the positive impact of apex-level interactions and confidence-building measures in gradually normalizing the situation, allowing for various activities along the Northern Borders, such as grazing and hydrotherapy camps. The deployment along the Line of Actual Control was described as balanced and robust, with a focus on capability development and infrastructure enhancement through a comprehensive government approach.
Referring to the northwestern front, Gen Dwivedi recalled India’s decisive response to the Pahalgam terror attack. He detailed the precision and strategic success of Operation Sindoor, which involved a 22-minute initiation on May 7 and an 88-hour operation that dismantled terror infrastructure and countered nuclear threats. The Army’s effective execution resulted in the destruction of seven out of nine targets and a calibrated response to Pakistan’s actions.
Gen Dwivedi highlighted the sensitive yet controlled situation along the northwestern front and in J&K since May 10. He reported the elimination of 31 terrorists in 2025, with a majority being of Pakistan origin. Notably, active local terrorists have reduced to single digits, and terrorist recruitment has significantly decreased. The positive changes in J&K were underscored by developments like increased tourism, successful events like the Shri Amarnath Yatra with over four lakh pilgrims, and a shift from terrorism to tourism.
