An Indian Army contingent has set off for Cambodia to take part in the second edition of the India-Cambodia Bilateral Military Exercise CINBAX-II 2026. The exercise is scheduled to occur at Techo Sen Phnom Thom Mreas Prov Royal Cambodian Air Force Training Centre (Camp Basil), Kampong Speu Province, from May 4-17, as per the Defence Ministry.
The bilateral exercise with Cambodia is significant in light of evolving global security challenges. It will be conducted under the Chapter VII of the UN Mandate, featuring company-level joint training for operations in a sub-conventional environment. The Indian Army contingent, consisting of 120 personnel primarily from a battalion of the Maratha Light Infantry Regiment, will be joined by 160 personnel from the Royal Cambodian Army.
The exercise aims to align with the current dynamics of counter-terrorism operations faced by peacekeeping forces during UN peacekeeping missions. Various practical discussions, comprehensive tactical exercises, and a validation exercise will be conducted. Special skill training, including drone operations, mortar, and sniper tactics, will also be practiced during the exercise.
The primary objective of the exercise is to enhance interoperability, coordination, and operational synergy between the contingents of both nations. It will not only demonstrate the capabilities of both countries in maintaining global peace but also facilitate the exchange of best practices and operational experiences gained during operations against hostile forces in a semi-urban setting. The exercise reflects the growing defense cooperation between India and Cambodia, aiming to enhance bilateral relations and mutual understanding in addressing regional security challenges.
