The Indian Army’s Gajraj Corps conducted a Military-Civil Fusion Seminar named ‘Sonitpur SAMVAD’ in Tezpur, Assam, to enhance collaboration between the military and civilians for national development. The seminar, themed around ‘Samoohik Prayas Se Rashtranirman’ and ‘Rashtra Sarvopari’, brought together officials from various sectors including state administration, security agencies, academia, healthcare, and civic bodies. Participants from Tezpur University, Sashastra Seema Bal, Assam Police, and other organizations attended the event.
The acronym SAMVAD symbolizes the core principles of the initiative, focusing on coordination, self-reliance, mental strength, trust, and development to achieve national goals during Amrit Kaal. Representatives from different sectors like private healthcare institutions, skill development centers, and administrative officers from Tezpur and Missamari were present at the seminar. The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Gajraj Corps emphasized ‘JAI’ – Jointness, Self-reliance, and Innovation – as the roadmap for building a resilient India aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
During the seminar, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Regional Institute of Mental Health and Army hospitals under Gajraj Corps to enhance mental healthcare services. This collaboration aims to provide clinical support, professional training, research partnerships, and community outreach programs for holistic mental well-being. The partnership signifies a significant step towards institutional cooperation and integrated development, highlighting mental health as a crucial aspect of national progress.
The Gajraj Corps, based in Tezpur, has a historical background dating back to its establishment in 1942 for the defense of Assam during World War II. Re-raised in 1962 before the Sino-Indian War, the Corps gained recognition for its role in the 1971 India-Pakistan war, particularly in the liberation of Bangladesh. Led by Lieutenant General Sagat Singh, the Corps executed a groundbreaking helicopter-led operation during the war, showcasing strategic prowess and operational excellence in challenging circumstances.
