India’s Ankush secured a spot in the men’s 80kg boxing quarterfinals at the Commonwealth Games after defeating Zalaan from Antigua and Barbuda with a unanimous 5-0 victory. Ankush, a silver medalist at the World Boxing Cup Finals in 2025, displayed a dominant performance, winning all three rounds with perfect scores from all judges.
Ankush’s win in the round of 16 guarantees him a place in the quarterfinals, where he awaits his next opponent for a chance to secure at least a bronze medal. Meanwhile, Sachin also advanced to the quarterfinals in the men’s 60kg event by defeating William Hewitt from England with a 4-1 split decision.
Sachin showcased exceptional ring skills and tactical discipline, outperforming the home favorite over three rounds to claim victory. Despite having a point deducted during the match, Sachin’s clean punches and composed performance kept him in control, positioning him just one win away from a podium finish.
With both Ankush and Sachin progressing to the quarterfinals, India’s boxing team continues to excel at the Commonwealth Games, with the potential for both boxers to secure medals.
