The Indian Coast Guard recently commissioned the Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Achal, a modern Adamya-class Fast Patrol Vessel, at Goa Shipyard Limited. The vessel, named ‘Achal’ meaning ‘firm’, symbolizes the Coast Guard’s commitment to safeguarding maritime frontiers and protecting lives at sea. This 51-meter ship, built by M/s Goa Shipyard Limited, boasts over 50% indigenous components, showcasing India’s progress in defense self-reliance.
The ICGS Achal, designed for efficiency and rapid response, is powered by two 3000 kW diesel engines, reaching a top speed of 27 knots and an operational endurance of 1500 nautical miles. Equipped with advanced weaponry like a 30 mm CRN-91 gun and two 12.7 mm Stabilised Remote-Controlled Guns, the vessel ensures enhanced mission adaptability and operational capabilities. Integrated technologies onboard, including an Integrated Bridge System and Automated Power Management System, enhance operational efficiency and situational awareness.
Stationed at Gujarat’s Vadinar, under the Coast Guard Region (North West), the ICGS Achal will undertake various missions such as surveillance, anti-smuggling operations, Search and Rescue (SAR), and pollution response. Commanded by Commandant (JG) Naveen Kumar, the vessel with a complement of five officers and 34 personnel is poised to strengthen coastal security and operational readiness in the North West Region.
