In a significant development, Indian defence exports reached an all-time high of Rs 38,424 crore in the financial year 2025-26, showing a substantial 62.66% increase from the previous fiscal year’s Rs 23,622 crore. Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) and the private sector contributed 54.84% and 45.16%, respectively. This achievement aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to position India as one of the top defence exporters globally.
DPSUs saw a remarkable 151% surge in exports compared to the previous year, while private firms demonstrated a robust presence with a 14% increase. The private sector accounted for Rs 17,353 crore of defence exports, while DPSUs contributed Rs 21,071 crore. In the previous financial year, their respective figures were Rs 15,233 crore and Rs 8,389 crore, according to an official statement.
India, besides being a successful global partner for systems/sub-systems, is now exporting defence equipment to over 80 countries as of FY 2025-26. The number of exporters has risen to 145 from 128, marking a 13.3% increase from the previous fiscal year. This underscores the growing global acceptance of Indian-made defence products and the sector’s increasing integration into international supply chains.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh commended the exemplary performance of the Department of Defence Production, Indian defence exporters, and all stakeholders, emphasizing India’s progress towards becoming a global manufacturing hub for defence equipment. He highlighted that under PM Modi’s leadership, India is crafting an impressive success story in defence exports. The government’s continuous efforts to enhance ease of doing business and support defence exporters have fostered a performance-oriented and globally competitive defence industry.
