Top Indian golfers like Gaganjeet Bhullar, SSP Chawrasia, Jeev Milkha Singh, and Karandeep Kochhar are set to participate in this year’s Singapore Open, starting at the Serapong course at Sentosa Golf Club. The tournament, part of The International Series, offers a prize purse of USD 2 million. Notably, the event serves as a gateway for two players to qualify for the 154th Open in July.
Kochhar, in exceptional form recently, leads the Indian contingent alongside other stalwarts like Bhullar, Chawrasia, Jeev Milkha Singh, and Shiv Kapur. The field also includes former winners Ajeetesh Sandhu and Rashid Khan, as well as promising young Indian players. The last Singapore Open at Sentosa Golf Club was in 2022, won by Thailand’s Sadom Kaewkanjana.
The tournament boasts a strong global lineup, featuring renowned players like Lucas Herbert, Josele Ballester, Peter Uihlein, and more. Travis Smyth, currently excelling in various Tours, will be a key contender. Kochhar, expressing excitement for the event, praised the challenging yet impressive golf course at Sentosa, emphasizing the importance of rest and recovery in the hot conditions.
Smyth, fresh from his recent successes, faces a tight schedule after a swift return from LIV Golf Mexico. Despite fatigue, he remains a top favorite for the Singapore Open, riding high on his recent victories. The Australian golfer will tee off alongside other top players, including Hellgren and Taichi Kho. Kochhar, on the other hand, starts early in the company of Ekpharit Wu and Charles Porter.
