Indian junior athletes continued their impressive performance at the ISSF Junior World Cup in Cairo by clinching three silver and a bronze medal on the second day of the competition. With these additional medals, India now stands third in the overall medal tally. The day saw athletes from Kazakhstan and Individual Neutral Athletes (AIN) dominating by winning four out of the five gold medals available.
Rohit Kanyan secured India’s first silver of the day in the 50m rifle prone men junior event with a score of 615.8, coming in just 0.5 points behind Kazakhstan’s Oleg Noskov, who claimed the gold medal. Sejal Kamble excelled in the junior women’s 25m pistol qualifiers, scoring 580 points to top the charts. She went on to finish second in the final with 27 hits, while AIN’s Katsiaryna Ivanova clinched the gold with 31 hits.
In another remarkable display, India achieved a double podium finish in the 25m pistol men junior event. Raj Chandra secured the silver with a score of 580, closely followed by Abhinav Deshwal who bagged the bronze with 578 points. Kazakhstan’s Kirill Tsukanov emerged victorious with a score of 581, claiming the gold medal.
The junior women’s skeet event saw Risham Guron qualify second with a score of 115, but she finished seventh in the final round with seven hits. Varvara Zaitseva from the Individual Neutral Athletes set a world record by winning gold with an impressive score of 33 hits out of 40. Meanwhile, in the junior men’s skeet, Ishaan Singh Libra narrowly missed out on a medal despite a strong performance. He finished with 24 hits in the final, exiting at the 28-shot mark. Briton Denzil Jago Grose secured the gold medal in the event, outperforming Italian Marco Coco by one hit.
