The Minister of State for External Affairs, Pabitra Margherita, engaged in a bilateral meeting with Costa Rica’s Foreign Minister, Manuel Tovar, in San Jose. This meeting signifies India’s dedication to deepening relations with Costa Rica and fostering collaboration across various sectors. Manuel Tovar’s participation in this meeting marked his first official engagement as Costa Rica’s Foreign Minister.
Margherita emphasized the importance of enhancing bilateral cooperation between India and Costa Rica during the discussions. The focus was on reinforcing mutual cooperation and broadening engagement, underpinned by shared democratic principles, multilateralism, and advocacy for a rules-based global order. Margherita expressed satisfaction with the productive talks aimed at strengthening the partnership between the two countries.
During his visit, Margherita inaugurated the ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ Wall at the University for Peace in San Jose. This event highlighted India’s ancient philosophy of universal brotherhood and global harmony. The minister’s actions underscored India’s commitment to promoting environmental sustainability and global ecological responsibility through initiatives like planting a sapling under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ program.
In addition to these engagements, Margherita inaugurated a new Feuji office center in Costa Rica, showcasing the expanding commercial and technological collaboration between India and Costa Rica. He also participated in the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected Costa Rican President Laura Fernandez, conveying warm regards from India. The bilateral relations between India and Costa Rica continue to flourish, driven by growing trade, technological exchanges, and people-to-people connections.
Margherita’s official visit to Costa Rica, Honduras, Belize, and the Commonwealth of Dominica from May 8 to 15 underscores India’s commitment to strengthening ties with countries in the region.
