After successful trade discussions in Ottawa, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is spearheading an Indian business delegation for industry roundtables and B2B engagements in Toronto on May 26–27. This initiative aims to solidify ministerial commitments into tangible commercial partnerships across key sectors. The visit follows the agenda set by Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Mark Carney during Carney’s visit to New Delhi in March 2026, building on the ongoing high-level interactions since mid-2025.
With the current bilateral trade volume at around $8.5 billion, India and Canada have jointly set an ambitious target of boosting this figure to $50 billion by 2030. Goyal, leading the largest-ever Indian business delegation to Canada, comprising representatives from over 100 companies, marks a significant step towards revitalizing economic relations between the two nations.
During the three-day visit, the focus is on enhancing trade and economic ties, particularly expediting negotiations for the India-Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). Minister Goyal engaged in a series of crucial meetings with senior Canadian officials in Ottawa to enhance collaboration in trade, investment, technology, agriculture, and strategic areas.
Goyal’s discussions with Canadian leaders, including Carney and Ministers, aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation across various sectors. Both sides expressed optimism towards concluding the India-Canada CEPA at the earliest, recognizing it as a pivotal agreement that could unlock new market opportunities and foster economic growth for both countries.
