India’s top mixed doubles pair, Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto, began their campaign at the Badminton Asia Championships in Ningbo, China, with a victory. They faced Thailand’s Phuwanat Horbanluekit and Benyapa Aimsaard, winning the opening game 21-14. Despite a strong response from the Thai pair in the second game, Dhruv and Tanisha secured the match with a 21-15 win in the final game.
Moving forward, the Indian duo is set to take on Malaysia’s Cheng Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei in the Round of 16, who currently hold a 2-0 head-to-head advantage. In other mixed doubles results, Ashith Surya and Amrutha Pramuthesh were defeated by Malaysia’s Wong Tien Ci and Lim Chiew Sien 21-16, 21-15, while Rohan Kapoor and Gadde Ruthvika Shivani exited the tournament after losing to eighth seeds Goh Soon Huat and Lai Shevon Jemie, 21-13, 21-19.
Looking ahead, top Indian singles players PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen are scheduled to compete on Wednesday. Sindhu will face Wong Ling Ching of Malaysia in the women’s singles Round of 32 match. Additionally, Unnati Hooda, Malvika Bansod, and Tanvi Sharma will also begin their campaigns in the main draw on the same day. In the men’s singles category, H.S Prannoy will kick off against Vietnam’s Nguyen Hai Dang, while Ayush Shetty will meet China’s Li Shi Feng. Kidambi Srikanth will start his campaign against Loh Kean Yew of Singapore, and Lakshya Sen will face Lee Cheuk Yiu of Hong Kong-China in the Round of 32.
