The Indian shooting season continues with over 150 competitors across eight Olympic events, along with the exclusive 50m rifle prone event, coming together at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range in Delhi for the Group A National Selection Trials 1&2 from January 19 to 25.
Day one will see the T1 prone finals and the start of men’s 25m rapid-fire pistol T1 qualification, with top competitors like Anish Bhanwala, an Olympian and world championship silver medalist, among the participants in the men’s RFP event.
Notable shooters at the event include world champion Samrat Rana, Olympians Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh, and Paris Olympic bronze medalists Swapnil Kusale. Esha Singh, a former mixed team world champion, will also compete alongside other accomplished shooters like Rudrankksh Balasaheb Patil and world championship medalists Anjum Moudgil, Mehuli Ghosh, and Akhil Sheoran.
The trials will feature rising talents like Jonathan Gavin Antony, Adriyan Karmakar, Mahit Sandhu, and Suraj Sharma challenging established stars. Experienced shooters like Rahi Sarnobat, Shweta Singh, Omkar Singh, and Lajja Gauswami will also be aiming for top performances after the 68th National Shooting Championship Competitions.
As the international season approaches, shooters will aim to secure spots in the first National squad of 2026 by performing well in these trials. The upcoming months will be crucial for assessing skills and preparing for major events like the Asian Games and the World Championships, which serve as a pathway to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
