A group of 58 Indian shooters and support staff have departed for Cairo to participate in the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Junior World Cup Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun. The event is scheduled to take place in Cairo from April 19 to 27, marking the beginning of the ISSF junior circuit for this year.
India has a total of 71 shooters competing in 18 medal events, with 36 shooters participating in the 15 Olympic events in Cairo. The competition also includes additional events such as the junior men’s and women’s 50m rifle prone competitions and the men’s 25m pistol event, which is expected to be part of the 2032 Olympics.
In Cairo, 284 athletes from 25 countries will be vying for top honors, with India sending the largest contingent. Egypt will host a 29-member squad, while Russia, competing as Individual Neutral Athletes (AIN), will have a 43-member team. Notable participation also comes from countries like France, Great Britain, and Italy.
The upcoming Junior World Championships in Germany present a significant opportunity for Indian junior shooters to showcase their talent. Recently, India wrapped up their ISSF World Cup Rifle/Pistol campaign in Granada, Spain, with a gold medal in the women’s 10m air rifle event.
