Olympian Elavenil Valarivan clinched gold in the 10m Air Rifle women’s event by narrowly defeating Japan’s Misaki Nobata at the Asian Rifle/Pistol Championship in New Delhi. Meanwhile, Shambhavi Kshirsagar set a new record at the Asian Junior Finals and secured gold in the junior category. Meghana Sajjanar also stood on the podium with a bronze medal, contributing to India’s clean sweep of the Junior women’s medals alongside Manyata Singh and Aneesha Sharma.
India’s dominance continued at the championship, with the team winning ten gold medals on the fourth day, bringing their total medal count to 43, including 27 gold, 10 silver, and eight bronze. Ojasvi Thakur added to India’s gold tally by winning in the women’s youth category. The day began with India’s strong performance in the 50m Men’s Pistol event, where former World No 1 Saurabh Chaudhary secured gold, followed by Kamaljeet Chaudhary and World Champion Ravinder Singh with silver and bronze, respectively.
Elavenil Valarivan’s impressive performance saw her move from fifth place to the lead by the 18th shot, maintaining her position to claim victory. In the Junior finals, Shambhavi set a new Asian Junior record, securing gold with a significant lead over Manyata Singh. Ojasvi Thakur also shone by winning all available gold medals for India in the Youth category. The Indian team’s collective effort resulted in securing gold in various team events as well.
