The Indian women’s team and men’s team both excelled in Stage 1 at the ITTF World Team Table Tennis Championships 2026. The women’s team defeated Rwanda after earlier victories against Uganda and Ukraine, securing their spot in Stage 2. On the other hand, the men’s team triumphed over Guatemala and Slovakia, finishing at the top of their group.
Leading the charge for the Indian women’s team was Manika Batra, ranked 48th globally, who secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Chantal Hirwa. Following her success, Diya Chitale and Syndrela Das also secured comfortable 3-0 wins, sealing the team’s success. In the men’s matches, Olympian Sathiyan Gnanasekaran, Manav Thakkar, and Payas Jain delivered impressive performances, each securing 3-0 victories in their respective matches.
A total of 64 teams are participating in the men’s and women’s events, divided into 16 groups of four teams each. The World Team Table Tennis Championships, which began in 2000, will conclude on May 10, with this year’s edition commemorating 100 years since the inaugural World Table Tennis Championships in London. The tournament features the largest team competition in its history, with matches held at the Copper Box Arena and OVO Arena Wembley.
