India’s Rishikanta Singh Chanambam, the Commonwealth Games 2026 silver medalist in men’s 60kg weightlifting, dedicated his achievement to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the nation. He expressed gratitude towards the government for its support of Indian sports. Rishikanta set a record-breaking performance in Glasgow on Sunday, securing the silver medal.

On Day 4 of the Games, Rishikanta from Manipur clinched the silver medal with a total lift of 264kg, finishing behind Malaysia’s Bin Kasdan Mohamad Aniq. Starting strong with a record-breaking snatch performance, Rishikanta faced tough competition but managed to secure the podium finish.

Despite missing out on the gold, Rishikanta remained thankful to his coach and everyone who supported his journey. He specifically mentioned his coach, Vijay Sharma, and the Indian Chief Coach for their guidance and training. Rishikanta emphasized the significant role of Prime Minister Modi in promoting sports in India.

The competition saw Rishikanta facing challenges in the clean and jerk segment but displayed determination and skill throughout. His dedication of the medal to the Prime Minister highlighted the impact of government support on athletes’ achievements. Rishikanta’s performance reflected his hard work and commitment to representing India on the international stage.
