As the Indian women’s hockey team readies for a crucial overseas assignment, Argentina’s Ambassador to India, Mariano Caucino, has sent his best wishes to the visiting squad, emphasizing the growing sporting connections between the two nations.
Preparations are in full swing for an upcoming four-match bilateral series against Argentina, with the Indian squad recently visiting the Argentine Consular Section in New Delhi to complete visa formalities.
Argentina’s Ambassador, Mariano Caucino, shared the news on social media, highlighting the significance of the tour and the collaborative spirit between the two teams.
The tour follows India’s strong performance at the recent FIH Hockey Women’s World Cup Qualifiers in Hyderabad, where the team clinched a silver medal, securing a spot in the upcoming global showpiece in Belgium and the Netherlands.
The series against Argentina will offer an opportunity to test bench strength, with a 24-member squad featuring players who missed the qualifiers, gaining valuable international exposure against higher-ranked opponents.
India, currently ranked eighth globally, will face off against Argentina, positioned three places higher, in a series crucial for their preparations ahead of major tournaments scheduled for this year.
The team, under the guidance of head coach Sjoerd Marijne at the SAI South Centre in Bengaluru, is focusing on developing combinations, improving fitness levels, and honing tactical strategies to deliver top performances.
With the FIH Hockey Women’s Nations Cup, the World Cup, and the Asian Games lined up in quick succession, the Argentina tour is set to play a pivotal role in shaping the team’s readiness for the challenging season ahead.
