The Indian Women’s Hockey team advanced to the Final of the FIH Hockey World Cup Qualifiers 2026 in Hyderabad, Telangana by defeating Italy 1-0 in the Semi-Final at the G. M. C. Balayogi Hockey Ground on Friday. Manisha Chauhan (40′) scored the decisive goal for India, setting up a showdown with England in the upcoming Final.
The match witnessed intense competition in the initial quarter, with both teams vying for control in the midfield. While India initiated the game with strong attacks, Italy gradually intensified their offensive efforts, creating promising goal-scoring opportunities.
India regained momentum in the second quarter, utilizing their flanks to advance the ball and launching coordinated attacks with multiple players making crucial entries into the circle. Despite early penalty corner opportunities, India faced solid defense from Italy, notably goalkeeper Lucia Ines Caruso.
In the second half, Italy mounted a fierce offensive, but India’s goalkeeper Bichu Devi Kharibam made a critical save to deny their opponents.
