Meenakshi Goyat secured India’s third silver medal in the women’s 53kg category at the 2026 Senior Asian Wrestling Championships in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Meanwhile, Monika and Harshita claimed bronze medals, bringing India’s total medal count to three silver and seven bronze. India’s hopes for a gold rested on Meenakshi, but she fell short against China’s Jin Zhang.
Monika and Harshita’s bronze wins uplifted the Indian contingent after Meenakshi’s defeat. Monika triumphed over Hanbit Lee of South Korea in the women’s 65kg category, while Harshita defeated Sevinchoy Polvonova in the women’s 72kg bronze medal match. India’s male freestyle wrestlers also excelled, with Sujeet, Abhimanyou, and Sandeep Mann advancing to the gold medal bouts in their respective weight categories.
Sujeet secured his spot in the 65kg freestyle final by defeating Abdulmazhid Kudiev of Tajikistan. Abhimanyou surprised the defending champion to reach the men’s 70kg freestyle final, while Sandeep Mann displayed dominance in the 79kg freestyle semi-final. Vicky will compete for bronze in the 97kg category, and Ankush will challenge for bronze in the men’s 57kg freestyle category.
