India’s Ambassador-designate to Japan, Nagma Mallick, met with Japan’s State Minister for Disaster Management Akama Jiro to discuss cooperation in disaster risk reduction and resilience. The Indian Embassy in Japan shared that the discussions focused on enhancing collaboration in disaster management. Earlier, Mallick also met with Japan’s Minister of State for Economic and Fiscal Policy Kiuchi Minoru to discuss aspects of the Special Strategic and Global Partnership between the two nations. Additionally, she held a meeting with Japan’s House of Representatives Member and Japan-India Parliamentary Friendship Group Chairman, Yasutoshi Nishimura, to discuss mutual interests and ways to strengthen the partnership. Furthermore, Mallick met with the Speaker of Japan’s House of Representatives Fukushiro Nukaga to discuss various aspects of bilateral ties. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also engaged in talks with his Japanese counterpart Sanae Takaichi during the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, focusing on enhancing cooperation in innovation, defence, and talent mobility. The meeting highlighted the importance of a strong India-Japan partnership for global betterment. India-Japan relations have evolved over the years, culminating in a ‘Special Strategic and Global Partnership’ in 2014, with defence and security cooperation being a key aspect of their bilateral relationship.
