India’s Army chief, General Upendra Dwivedi, has embarked on a two-day official visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to enhance bilateral military and strategic cooperation. This visit signifies the increasing defense collaboration within the broader India-UAE strategic partnership, which has seen significant progress through various joint initiatives and high-level engagements in security and defense sectors.
General Dwivedi’s trip underscores India’s commitment to bolster military diplomacy with key partners in the Gulf region, which holds substantial importance for security, economic, and geopolitical interests. The India-UAE relationship is based on a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with defense cooperation standing as a crucial element alongside trade, energy, and cultural exchanges.
The visit is expected to involve discussions with senior UAE military officials to further enhance cooperation in defense innovation, joint exercises, and strategic dialogues. Recently, an Indian Army contingent participated in the joint military Exercise ‘Desert Cyclone-II’ in Abu Dhabi, aiming to strengthen interoperability and defense cooperation between the Indian Army and the UAE Land Forces.
Troops from both countries will engage in various tactical drills during the exercise, focusing on operations in urban environments, heliborne operations, and mission planning. The exercise will also include the integration of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and counter-UAS techniques for operations in built-up areas.
General Dwivedi’s visit follows a series of engagements with foreign militaries and strategic partners worldwide, aligning with India’s efforts to build partnerships, enhance interoperability, and address common security challenges in a complex global landscape.
