Uncapped Indian all-rounder Ashutosh Sharma, known for his batting skills, has signed up to play for Hampshire in the upcoming men’s One-Day Cup, as announced by the English county club. Ashutosh, aged 27, is a part of the Delhi Capitals squad in the Indian Premier League (IPL), which is co-owned by the GMR Group, the same entity that owns Hampshire. Over the past two IPL seasons, he has showcased his prowess by scoring more than 350 runs for Delhi Capitals, boasting an impressive strike rate of 170 and an average of 31.25.
“We are excited to have Ashutosh join us for the One-Day Cup. He has shown great potential and delivered strong performances for Delhi Capitals in the IPL recently, proving his ability to excel at a high level,” stated Giles White, Hampshire’s Director of Cricket, expressing his anticipation for Ashutosh’s contribution to the team. Hampshire aims to surpass its previous year’s performance in the competition and is eager to witness Ashutosh’s skills in action wearing their jersey.
Ashutosh gained recognition in Indian domestic cricket when he achieved the fastest T20 fifty by an Indian player, achieving this milestone in just 11 balls while playing for Railways against Arunachal Pradesh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Starting his domestic career with Madhya Pradesh in 2017 before moving to Railways, Ashutosh has participated in 92 matches across various formats. In the 50-over format, he has accumulated 458 runs and taken two wickets in 21 List A matches.
His journey in the Indian Premier League (IPL) commenced with Punjab Kings, where he made a memorable debut as an Impact Substitute, scoring 31 runs off 17 balls. Subsequently, Delhi Capitals secured Ashutosh for INR 3.80 crore ahead of the 2025 season. Additionally, apart from Ashutosh, senior Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is also expected to feature in the one-day cup, with Northamptonshire sharing a picture of him joining their practice session.
