India’s World Cup hero Deepti Sharma expressed her self-belief and hard work dedication after a stellar all-round performance led India to a 14-run victory over South Africa in the fourth T20I at Wanderers Stadium. Deepti, in a BCCI video, acknowledged the team’s faith in her and her own determination to deliver when needed most. She scored an unbeaten 36 runs and took 5 wickets for 19 runs, steering India to victory.
Deepti’s crucial partnership with Jemimah Rodrigues (43) and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (22) helped India post 185/5. Her exceptional bowling performance restricted South Africa to 171/9. Deepti expressed her joy at achieving her first five-wicket haul against her favorite team, emphasizing the importance of such milestones.
India’s recovery from early setbacks was fueled by partnerships, including Deepti’s unbeaten 65-run stand with Richa Ghosh (34*). South Africa’s chase was halted by Deepti’s breakthroughs after a strong start by Sune Luus (40) and Tazmin Brits (30). Deepti credited her preparation, especially training with captain Harmanpreet, for her improved performance with both bat and ball.
The victory prevented India from a series whitewash, with South Africa leading 3-1. The final T20I is set for Willowmoore Park in Benoni on Monday.
