India’s Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) mission in Venezuela, known as Operation Amistad, has wrapped up following the closure of the Army Field Hospital. The mission was initiated in response to twin earthquakes of magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5 that struck Venezuela on June 24, resulting in over 3,300 fatalities and extensive damage. The Army Field Hospital, which provided crucial medical aid to the affected population, received praise for its dedicated service.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed the successful conclusion of the Army Field Hospital’s operations in Venezuela. Throughout its week-long presence, the hospital made a significant impact by delivering timely medical assistance to those in need. Survivors and their families expressed deep appreciation for the compassionate care and treatment provided by the Indian medical team during the crisis.
Numerous videos shared by the MEA showcased the gratitude of individuals towards the Indian medical personnel for their invaluable support. One mother, Lizzet Rodriguez, expressed her thanks to India and the medical professionals for treating her son at the Army Field Hospital. She highlighted the exceptional care her son received for a fractured femur and extended her heartfelt appreciation to the Government of India for aiding the Venezuelan people during the challenging times.
Venezuela’s Foreign Minister, Yvan Gil, visited the field hospital established by India and conveyed the nation’s gratitude for the assistance rendered. Minister Gil commended the Operation Friendship, conducted by India, for its provision of comprehensive and high-quality care to the earthquake survivors. He expressed sincere thanks on behalf of the Bolivarian Government and the Venezuelan people to the Government of India, particularly acknowledging Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for their support in the aftermath of the calamitous seismic events.
