India’s media and entertainment sector is projected to grow by around 7% annually until 2027, with revenues expected to increase from Rs 2,502 billion in 2024 to Rs 3,067 billion in 2027. This growth highlights the sector’s significance as a robust engine for economic expansion within the services economy. The sector currently sustains over 10 million livelihoods, both directly and indirectly, with an annual output of about Rs 3 lakh crore.

The sector’s growth signifies more than just expansion; it signifies the strengthening of creativity as a strategic asset that connects economic progress with global influence in a world increasingly driven by platforms. Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality, collectively known as AVGC-XR, represent the most technologically advanced frontier of the creative economy. Gaming has become a mainstream digital platform integrated into daily life, while animation and VFX play a crucial role in shaping the visual language of global entertainment.

India’s animation, visual effects, comics, and XR ecosystem now functions as a globally interconnected production hub. Indian teams actively contribute to international films, streaming content, advertising, and immersive experiences, operating within highly integrated global workflows. This sector showcases increasing technical expertise and creative assurance.

Gaming stands out as a prominent symbol of India’s digital evolution, with millions engaging daily in metros and small towns to compete, collaborate, and create virtual worlds. Mobile devices serve as both gaming arenas and social hubs, blurring the boundaries between entertainment and social interaction. India has emerged as one of the world’s largest gaming markets, supported by a large and deeply engaged user base, leading to a structured market growth trajectory.

The creative sector, including live entertainment, contributes significantly to GDP growth globally, ranging from 0.5% to over 7%. India’s creative economy is becoming a key driver of growth, employment, and value creation within this global transformation.
