India had a mixed day at the Thailand Open with P. V. Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth advancing comfortably to the second round. Sindhu, a former world champion, dominated her match against Tung Ciou-Tong, winning 21-9, 21-12 in just 33 minutes. She will now face Denmark’s Amalie Schulz in the next round.
Srikanth also impressed, defeating Loh Kean Yew 21-14, 21-15 to move into the round of 16. The Indian, a former world No. 1, will next play against Chinese Taipei’s Su Li Yang for a spot in the quarter-finals. However, Ayush Shetty’s journey ended as he lost to Kodai Naraoka after a hard-fought battle.
Teenager Unnati Hooda surprised by beating Pornpawee Chochuwong, while Anmol Kharb fell short against reigning champion Chen Yu Fei. Tharun Mannepalli also faced defeat against Japan’s Koki Watanabe. Later matches will feature Lakshya Sen, Tanvi Sharma, Devika Sihag, Malvika Bansod, and Isharani Baruah in singles, along with three Indian pairs in mixed doubles.
