India has demonstrated remarkable resilience in facing global crises, according to Shaktikanta Das, the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister. Speaking at the AIMA National Leadership Conclave in New Delhi, Das highlighted India’s ability to not just survive but thrive in challenging times. He emphasized that India has consistently emerged stronger from every crisis it has encountered.
Das pointed out the current uncertain and tense global economic environment characterized by geopolitical tensions, supply chain disruptions, and uneven growth across regions. Despite these challenges, India has shown robust economic performance, recording a real GDP growth of 7.6% in FY26 and an average growth of 7.8% over the past five years.
The Principal Secretary attributed India’s resilience to factors such as macroeconomic stability, consistent policy decisions, infrastructure development, and strong domestic demand. He stressed the importance of controlling inflation, noting that it disproportionately affects the poor. Maintaining low inflation levels can enhance consumers’ purchasing power and support overall economic stability.
Das also highlighted India’s balanced policy response during crises, mentioning the timely introduction and withdrawal of fiscal and monetary measures to prevent system excesses. He further discussed structural changes in the economy, including rapid digitalization, infrastructure expansion, and growth in sectors like electronics and semiconductors. India’s strategy of maintaining strategic autonomy and diversifying partnerships globally has reduced dependence on any single country.
