The senior men’s selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar will reveal India’s Test squad for the Sri Lanka tour by Tuesday, as confirmed by BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia. The team, captained by Shubman Gill, is set to play two Test matches in Sri Lanka as part of the ICC World Test Championship. The first Test will take place at Galle International Cricket Stadium from August 15 to 19, followed by the second Test at Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo from August 23 to 27.
The Indian team is scheduled to arrive in Colombo on August 4 and engage in a four-day warm-up match from August 7 to 10 at Nondescripts Cricket Club. While most of the squad remains unchanged, concerns revolve around the fitness of Jasprit Bumrah and Washington Sundar. Bumrah sustained an injury during the third ODI against England, while Sundar is recovering from a hamstring strain, casting doubt on their availability for the series.
The return of Ravindra Jadeja, who was rested for the Afghanistan game and not part of the ODIs in England, is also anticipated. Following the ongoing T20I series against Zimbabwe, the BCCI plans to conduct a review meeting to analyze the national team’s recent white-ball performances. The meeting, expected in early August, will involve top BCCI officials, head coach Gautam Gambhir, T20I captain Shreyas Iyer, COE head of cricket VVS Laxman, and the selection panel.
