India faced a setback before the Thomas & Uber Cup Finals as Treesa Joly and Gayatri Gopichand, the women’s doubles pair, had to pull out of the prestigious tournament due to Treesa’s injury. The Badminton Federation of India (BAI) announced that Shruti Mishra and Priya Konjengbam will step in as replacements for the duo. The tournament is scheduled to take place in Horsens, Denmark from April 24 to May 3.
The Indian women’s team will miss Treesa Joly and Gayatri Gopichand in the upcoming Thomas & Uber Cup Finals 2026 due to Treesa’s injury, as confirmed by BAI. This pair had to withdraw from the Badminton Asia Championships earlier and also pulled out of the Swiss Open 2026 following Treesa’s injury during a match last month. Meanwhile, PV Sindhu will lead the Uber Cup team, aiming to guide a young generation including Unnati Hooda as India seeks to improve on past semifinal finishes.
In the last edition of the Thomas & Uber Cup in 2024, held in Chengdu, the Indian women’s team, which had secured bronze in the 2014 and 2016 editions, was eliminated in the quarters by Japan. The Indian women’s team for the upcoming tournament includes PV Sindhu, Unnati Hooda, Tanvi Sharma, Devika Sihag, Isharani Baruah, Kavipriya Selvam, Simran Singhi, Tanisha Crasto, Shruti Mishra, and Priya Konjengbam.
