Innovator and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, who recently ended a 21-day hunger strike, is currently weak due to fasting and dehydration but remains stable under medical care at Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital.
Wangchuk was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital after completing his prolonged fast for necessary medical attention and treatment. The hospital reported that although he is weak from fasting and dehydration, he is stable and requires continuous monitoring and treatment to restore his health.
Following a deterioration in his health, Wangchuk was moved to the hospital in compliance with the Delhi High Court’s directives and medical experts’ advice. Police intervened at the protest site and transferred him to the hospital amidst protests by fellow activists.
Wangchuk’s wife emphasized the need for consent from the family and long-term doctors before any oral or IV treatments are administered to him. Wangchuk initiated the hunger strike to demand the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities in the NEET examination.
