An inter-state motorcycle theft racket spanning Ahmedabad city, Sabarkantha district, and Rajasthan has been dismantled by the Local Crime Branch (LCB) Zone-4 of the city police. This operation resulted in the arrest of three individuals, the retrieval of 15 stolen motorcycles, and the resolution of 11 vehicle theft cases. Acting on directives from senior police officials, the LCB Zone-4 conducted vigilant surveillance and intelligence-based checks to combat property crimes, particularly vehicle thefts.
The crackdown commenced on March 29 when the LCB Zone-4 team, led by PSI S.M. Patel, responded to specific intelligence in the Naroda Police Station area. During this mission, a juvenile was apprehended, leading to the recovery of seven stolen motorcycles from his possession. These motorcycles were traced back to various areas, including Ahmedabad City, Sabarkantha, and Rajasthan.
Further investigations identified two associates, Ranjitsinh Rathod and Lalitkumar Meena, both residents of Rajasthan, as wanted individuals in connection with the thefts. Acting on credible intelligence, the LCB Zone-4 team apprehended the suspects from the Meghaninagar area. Subsequent interrogation of the accused led to the discovery of eight more stolen motorcycles, bringing the total recovered vehicles to 15, valued at approximately Rs 2.65 lakh.
The accused are suspected of engaging in theft activities since 2023, often traveling to Ahmedabad for labor and using stolen motorcycles for short-term commuting. The ongoing investigation aims to uncover additional associates and ascertain potential links to other vehicle theft cases. The LCB Zone-4 affirmed that efforts are underway to determine any connections to pending theft cases or additional stolen property.
