The International Fencing Federation (FIE) and the Fencing Association of India (FAI) have inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation and bolster the development of fencing in India leading up to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. The MoU was signed by Abdelmoniem El Husseiny, Interim President of the FIE, and Rajeev Mehta, Secretary General of the FAI and Secretary General of the Fencing Confederation of Asia (FCA), during the Asian Fencing Championships 2026 in New Delhi.
This collaboration outlines a strategic framework encompassing athlete promotion, fan engagement, communications, stakeholder outreach, and initiatives focused on boosting the visibility and popularity of fencing. The partnership between the International Fencing Federation (FIE) and the Fencing Association of India (FAI) aims to create avenues that support athletes, engage new audiences, and contribute to the sport’s long-term growth, as per a release by the FAI.
Expressing enthusiasm, Abdelmoniem El Husseiny stated, “India presents a significant growth prospect for fencing. We are excited to fortify our ties with the Fencing Association of India through this pact and anticipate working together to enhance the sport’s presence, motivate young athletes, and generate momentum towards Los Angeles 2028.”
Rajeev Mehta, also the Secretary General of the Fencing Confederation of Asia (FCA), commented on the opportunity, saying, “This MoU signifies a pivotal advancement in the fencing landscape in India. Collaborating with the International Fencing Federation will aid us in fortifying the sport’s ecosystem, raising awareness, and offering improved opportunities for athletes to excel. Together, we are dedicated to shaping a robust future for fencing and inspiring the upcoming generation of fencers as we set our sights on LA28.”
