The investigation into the custodial death of Sabarivarman at Nagercoil sub-jail progresses with the arrest of eight inmates linked to the assault. Additionally, three prison warders, previously arrested, have been suspended by the prison department. Post-mortem results revealed 19 external injuries on Sabarivarman’s body, indicating a severe assault during his time in custody.
The arrested inmates, including Vishnu, Sarathi, Jegan, Sarath, Veriyaperumal, Sethuram, Ajith, and Aravind, face murder charges for their alleged involvement in the attack on Sabarivarman. The violence erupted after an argument between Sabarivarman and fellow inmates, escalating into a brutal assault that left him with multiple injuries and unconscious. Investigators are probing further to ascertain the full extent of involvement by both warders and inmates in the incident.
Sabarivarman’s family continues to demand justice, government compensation, and a job for a family member, refusing to accept his body for the third day. Supporters and political parties have gathered outside the hospital, advocating for strict action against those responsible for the tragic custodial death.
