The investigation into the Air India Flight AI-171 crash in Ahmedabad is in its final stages, with the final report set to be released soon. Union Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu emphasized the importance of determining the exact cause of the accident over expediting the report. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is conducting the probe transparently and professionally, as stated by Naidu during a review of the Dholera International Airport project.
The crash, involving a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner bound for London Gatwick, occurred shortly after take-off from Ahmedabad on June 12 last year. Tragically, the aircraft crashed into the BJ Medical College hostel complex, resulting in the loss of 260 lives, with only one passenger surviving. International agencies, including the UK’s Air Accidents Investigation Branch and the US National Transportation Safety Board, have been assisting the AAIB in the investigation.
While a preliminary report was issued last year, the definitive cause of the crash is yet to be determined by investigators. The ministry has cautioned against speculation until the final findings are made public. Families of the victims have been urging for a clear timeline on the report’s release and regular updates on the ongoing investigation. Naidu expressed confidence that the final investigation report will be made available very soon.
