The probe into an alleged fake Indian currency operation in Assam accelerated as one of the accused sustained a gunshot wound during a police action in Guwahati. Ajay Biswakarma, one of the suspects, was injured in the leg and is currently receiving medical treatment at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital.
The arrests of Biswakarma and his associate, Debojit Deori, both from Dhemaji district, occurred after their vehicle was intercepted near Nagaland House in Guwahati. The police operation was prompted by intelligence suggesting the transportation of counterfeit currency, leading to an exchange of fire and the recovery of fake notes amounting to Rs 2.56 lakh.
Authorities found incriminating materials and a significant sum of counterfeit Rs 500 notes in a black backpack inside the vehicle. The investigation indicates possible connections to a broader fake currency network in the region, with ongoing efforts to verify the suspects’ alleged involvement in similar illicit activities.
The injured suspect has accused some police personnel of involvement in the counterfeit currency trade, although this claim remains unverified. Police are actively working to trace the origins of the fake currency, dismantle the supply chain, and identify other individuals associated with the illicit operation.
