Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri have jointly criticized Israel’s aggressive behavior towards Lebanon. They emphasized the urgent need for global intervention to halt Israel’s brutal actions in southern Lebanon, which have resulted in numerous casualties, extensive destruction, and displacement of Lebanese citizens. Araghchi and Berri expressed their commitment to ongoing discussions and cooperation between their nations.
The two leaders highlighted the importance of ending Israeli aggressions as part of the ceasefire agreement between Iran and the United States. Araghchi affirmed Iran’s dedication to addressing this issue in future diplomatic endeavors. Meanwhile, Berri underscored the necessity of holding Israel accountable for its actions in Lebanon. The ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon was initiated following a period of heightened conflict related to the US-Israeli tensions with Iran.
In a separate communication with Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis, Araghchi attributed regional maritime insecurity, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz, to US and Israeli aggression against Iran. Cassis reiterated Switzerland’s support for diplomatic solutions to resolve conflicts and promote peace in the region. Additionally, the US Embassy in Lebanon expressed support for a potential meeting between Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Recent hostilities between Iran, the United States, and Israel have escalated tensions in the region. Following joint attacks by Israel and the US on Iranian targets, Iran retaliated with missile and drone strikes against Israel and US interests. Despite a ceasefire agreement, subsequent negotiations between Iranian and US delegations failed to produce a resolution, leading to further complications including a US blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
