Iran’s Foreign Ministry criticized the European Union (EU) for accusing Tehran of defending itself against “US aggression from neighboring bases,” calling it hypocritical and reckless. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei defended Iran’s strikes on bases used to launch attacks, stating it was a lawful act of self-defense. Baqaei emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law and UN Charter principles.

The EU’s recent statement condemning Iran’s attack on Kuwait was met with Iran’s assertion of self-defense rights. The EU condemned the attack on Kuwait, citing a violation of international law and expressing solidarity with Kuwait. The EU urged all parties to respect international law and called for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2817.

The EU emphasized the need for de-escalation and a sustainable solution to conflicts involving the US, Israel, and Iran. The statement highlighted the importance of upholding the United Nations Charter and international humanitarian law. Iran’s actions were framed as a response to unlawful attacks, emphasizing the obligation of states to prevent the use of their territory for aggression.
