Iran has put forward a new proposal for discussions with the United States, calling for an immediate halt to hostilities, assurances against further aggression, and the removal of US sanctions and naval blockades. The proposal also includes a 30-day timeframe for the lifting of US sanctions on Iranian oil sales and the release of Iran’s frozen assets after an initial agreement.
The conflict between the two nations escalated after joint US and Israeli airstrikes on Tehran and other Iranian cities resulted in casualties on both sides. Following a ceasefire that began on April 8, talks were held in Pakistan between Iranian and US representatives on April 11 and 12, but no consensus was reached. Subsequently, the US imposed its own blockade on the Strait of Hormuz.
Recent weeks have seen the exchange of various proposed plans through Pakistan, outlining conditions for resolving the conflict. In response to the latest US proposal, Iran’s official news agency reported that Iran has conveyed its reply to Pakistan. However, US President Donald Trump expressed dissatisfaction with Iran’s response, labeling it as “totally unacceptable.”
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized the importance of Iran clarifying its stance on nuclear weapons, a key factor in achieving a peace agreement.
