Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammed Bagher Ghalibaf cautioned US President Donald Trump about the potential closure of the Strait of Hormuz if the US persists with its naval blockade. Ghalibaf emphasized that Iran would strictly regulate maritime traffic in the strategic waterway, allowing passage only with Iranian authorization along a designated route.
Following Iran’s announcement that the Strait of Hormuz would remain open for commercial shipping during the ceasefire, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi declared unrestricted passage for all commercial vessels through the strait on a coordinated route specified by Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization. In response, Trump reiterated his intention to uphold the naval blockade until a comprehensive agreement with Iran is reached, suggesting a swift conclusion to negotiations with reported progress on key issues.
Disputing Trump’s stance, Ghalibaf dismissed the US claims as baseless, asserting that the operational status and regulations of the Strait of Hormuz would be determined on the ground, not through social media or rhetoric. He criticized Trump for allegedly making multiple false statements within a short timeframe without specifying the nature of these claims.
The Strait of Hormuz, a vital global energy passage that handles nearly 20% of the world’s oil supply, remains a focal point amid escalating tensions between Iran and the US.
