Iran’s Ambassador to India, Mohammad Fathali, hinted at the possibility of Indian ships receiving safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz amidst escalating tensions in the Middle East. Fathali emphasized the common interests shared by India and Iran in the region, citing India’s support following the war.
The Ambassador’s statement follows Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht-Ravanchi’s announcement that Tehran has allowed ships from certain countries to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. Takht-Ravanchi refuted claims of Iran laying mines in the Strait, asserting its closure during the conflict.
Highlighting the significance of the Strait of Hormuz as a critical global shipping route for oil and gas exports, the Ministry of Ports and Shipping confirmed the status of Indian-flagged vessels in the Persian Gulf region. The Ministry assured active monitoring of Indian ships and crew for safety and security, with coordination among authorities, ship managers, and recruitment agencies.
Advisories issued to safeguard Indian seafarers and maritime trade operations in the region remain in effect, with ongoing monitoring and preparedness measures by the Ministry in response to the evolving maritime situation in the Persian Gulf.
