The Football Federation of Iran (FFIRI) has expressed disappointment over the travel restrictions imposed by the USA during the FIFA World Cup 2026. Iran players are only allowed to enter the USA a day before a game and must leave on the same day, posing challenges for their preparation, especially for the upcoming match against Belgium.
In a statement, FFIRI criticized the restrictions, citing unequal conditions for teams and potential negative impacts on preparation processes. The federation announced its decision to lodge an official complaint with FIFA regarding the matter to address the issue and ensure fair treatment for all teams participating in the tournament.
Iran’s coach, Amir Ghalenoei, described the team as the ‘most oppressed’ at the tournament following their match against New Zealand in Los Angeles. Ghalenoei highlighted the difficulties faced by the team, including sudden travel directives and obstacles in their preparation, expressing determination to overcome the challenges and perform to the best of their abilities.
The coach emphasized the hurdles faced by Iran, such as delayed arrival, immediate return after matches, and overall lack of support and presence from their federation, media, and management. Despite these challenges, Iran remains focused on their World Cup campaign, striving to navigate through the uncertainties and obstacles to compete effectively on the global stage.
