Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, is anticipated to have his initial international interaction with Russian President Vladimir Putin, as per local reports. A source mentioned that due to security concerns amid ongoing military conflicts, Khamenei has not made any public appearances. Khamenei assumed the role of Iran’s Supreme Leader in March following the death of his father, Ali Khamenei, in missile attacks by the US and Israel.
Mojtaba Khamenei has expressed determination to avenge his father’s death and that of other martyrs. He emphasized the people’s will for retribution in a statement released before his father’s funeral. Reports suggest that Khamenei will remain out of the public eye until the military tensions with the US and Israel ease, based on an Iranian source cited by Tass news agency.
Despite escalating tensions in the Persian Gulf, Russia’s contacts with Iran continue, as confirmed by Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov. The US and Iran recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding for a ceasefire in various regions, including Lebanon. Talks between the two nations were held in Switzerland to implement the memorandum.
