Ireland’s captain Lorcan Tucker commended his team’s resilience in a historic 34-run win against India in the first T20I match. Tucker described the victory over the T20 World Cup champions as “pretty special,” highlighting his players’ composure during challenging moments. Ireland, led by Tucker’s 50 and Gareth Delany’s 49, recovered from 36/3 to reach 182/9 before bowling out India for 148.
“It was pretty special. But just credit to the lads. I think we scraped through that game. We had some tough periods in it, but we stayed in it. We were diligent, we worked hard, and we were lucky to get the reward in the end,” Tucker expressed after the match. He also acknowledged the outstanding performances of two debutants in the team.
Tucker, continuing his impressive batting form, achieved his second consecutive half-century as captain. Humble about his feat, Tucker stated, “I have no idea why. I’m sure it will be broken the next day. But yeah, it’s started nicely for me.”
Reflecting on the challenging start Ireland faced at 36/3, Tucker credited India’s disciplined bowling for making it tough in the initial overs. He likened the situation to a Test match but emphasized the importance of building partnerships and seizing opportunities later in the game.
The skipper recognized the contributions of Cricket Ireland’s support staff and the collective efforts behind the scenes. He praised the debutants, Matthew Hollard and Jai Moondra, for their impressive bowling display, learning from India’s tactics in the first innings.
With Ireland now leading the series 1-0, Tucker expressed the team’s eagerness to secure a historic series victory over India. He highlighted the motivation within the squad to achieve success at home and appreciated the support from the enthusiastic crowd.
