Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman V. Narayanan revealed plans for three uncrewed missions preceding India’s inaugural human space venture, Gaganyaan. Speaking at the International Conference on Spacecraft Mission Operations, Narayanan emphasized the agency’s adherence to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s directives for the Gaganyaan program.
The Chairman stated that the initial focus is on the first uncrewed mission, with preparations progressing smoothly. Details regarding the timeline and other mission specifics will be disclosed in due course. Narayanan underscored the significance of mission operations in space endeavors, highlighting the enduring nature of these activities compared to the brief launch phase.
Emphasizing the critical nature of mission operations, Narayanan pointed out the intricate challenges involved in human spaceflight missions. These challenges encompass aspects such as human rating of the launch vehicle, development of new systems like the crew escape mechanism, and ensuring seamless integration between humans, machines, and software.
The ongoing conference, centered on mission operations and emerging technologies, will feature discussions on various aspects crucial to space missions. With over 400 papers set for presentation, the event aims to benefit students, startups, and engineers engaged in this domain.
