Actor Jackie Shroff honored the late veteran star Amrish Puri on his 21st death anniversary. Remembering Puri for his commanding screen presence and distinctive voice, Jackie shared a monochrome picture of the legendary actor on his Instagram stories. Puri, who acted in over 450 films, was celebrated for his versatility but particularly acclaimed for his villainous portrayals in Indian cinema.
Amrish Puri, known for iconic roles in movies like “Mr. India” and “Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge,” passed away in 2005 after battling myelodysplastic syndrome, a rare form of blood cancer. His portrayal of the antagonist Mogambo in “Mr. India” is considered one of the finest villain performances in Indian cinema. Additionally, his comedic role in “Chachi 420” opposite Kamal Haasan received critical acclaim.
In international cinema, Puri gained recognition for his role as Mola Ram in “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.” Despite his illness, Puri continued to act, with his final film being the 2006 action movie “Kachchi Sadak.” The film, a blend of fiction and reality, revolves around a young man named Randhir embroiled in the manipulated liquor trade, offering a mix of drama and social commentary.
