Veteran Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff honored the 100th birth anniversary of legendary music composer O. P. Nayyar, recognizing his significant impact on Indian cinema. Sharing a photo of Nayyar on Instagram Stories, Jackie highlighted Nayyar’s reputation as a highly rhythmic and melodious music director. In a heartfelt gesture, Jackie included the iconic song “Deewana Hua Badal” from the 1964 film “Kashmir Ki Kali,” sung by Mohammed Rafi and Asha Bhosle, in his tribute.
O. P. Nayyar collaborated extensively with renowned singers like Geeta Dutt, Asha Bhosle, and Mohammed Rafi, and notably with Kishore Kumar in popular films such as Baap Re Baap and Raagini. Known for his distinctive style, Nayyar composed background scores for films like Kaneez and Aasmaan, and worked closely with Guru Dutt on projects like Aar Paar, Mr. & Mrs.55, and C.I.D.
Despite not working with Lata Mangeshkar, Nayyar’s musical legacy included notable songs like “Saari Saari Raat Teri Yaad Satayein.” His compositions were featured in films spanning different eras, from Tumsa Nahin Dekha to Phir Wohi Dil Laya Hoon. Nayyar’s influence extended to a wide array of actors, from Dilip Kumar to Amitabh Bachchan, leaving a lasting impact on Indian cinema.
During the 1990s, Nayyar briefly returned to the music scene with projects like Mangni and Nishchay, before his passing in January 2007 due to a heart attack.
