Deep sorrow and anger have enveloped the Jain community in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, after a road accident claimed the lives of two revered Jain Sadhvis and left another critically injured. The incident, marked by the driver fleeing the scene, has triggered strong emotions among community members who have gathered seeking justice and expressing their grief. The driver, attempting to escape, was apprehended by the police nearly 270 km away from the accident site.
The tragic event occurred when a speeding vehicle hit three Jain Sadhvis in Rewa, resulting in the death of two Sadhvis and leaving the third in critical condition. The deceased Sadhvis have been identified as Shruti Mati Mata and Upasham Mati Mata. Shruti Mati Mata lost her life on the spot due to the collision’s impact, while Upasham Mati Mata succumbed to her injuries during medical treatment. The third Sadhvi, Arika Mata, remains in a highly critical state under intensive medical care.
The entire Jain community is mourning the loss, with a large gathering at the hospital and local Jain Dharmashala to show solidarity and sorrow. The bodies of the deceased Sadhvis were placed for final darshan before their last rites. Top officials, including Commissioner B.S. Jamod and Deputy Commissioner Narendra Suryavanshi, visited the accident site and hospital to manage the situation and ensure security.
